Canadian Booksellers celebrate the best in the Canadian book industry

Toronto, ON, May 16, 2011—Canadian Booksellers Association announced the winners of the 2011 Libris Awards at a gala event on Saturday, May 14. The event, which took place at the Radisson Admiral Hotel - Toronto Harbourfront, was hosted by Kevin Graff, President of Graff Retail and Bob Phibbs, the Retail Doctor®

The Libris Awards recognize the best in the Canadian book industry. Nominated and voted on by members of the Canadian Booksellers Association, the Libris Awards single out the best in 13 categories including best writer; best editor; best sales rep; best publisher; best small press publisher; best distributor; best fiction, non-fiction, children’s book, and young reader books; and best campus, specialty and general book retailer.

 “The Libris Awards showcase all that is great about Canadian bookselling and book production,” says Mark Lefebvre, President of Canadian Booksellers Association. “The awards signify something particularly special, since Canada’s independent bookseller’s nominate and vote on the award winners. The people who know books and the book market the best are Canada’s independent booksellers, and it’s Canada’s independents who deliver the Libris Awards. Winning a Libris is a stamp of approval that everyone involved in the book industry in the book industry hopes to gain.” 

Also at the Libris Award gala, Chase Paymentech awarded author and bookseller Vikki VanSickle with the Young Bookseller of the Year Award. The award recognizes excellence in book retailing by a bookseller under the age of 30. VanSickle, author of Words that Start With B, is a Manager at The Flying Dragon Bookstore in Toronto, Ontario, which won the award for Specialty Bookstore of the Year.
